Key events 2021

Re-opening after the pandemic. On July 7, our three land-based casinos opened after being closed for 465 days due to the pandemic. At first, restrictions prevailed — opening hours were limited, as were the number of guests on the premises and at gambling tables and video lottery terminals. Restrictions were lifted on 29 September. At the end of the year, we reinstated restrictions, including vaccination proof requirements.

Partly as a result of the pandemic, we reorganised the casino operation and adapted it to assessed demand. Opening hours were cut short and the organisation was converted to multi-competence, i.e., the ability of employees to switch between different roles and tasks was developed.

In autumn 2020 and winter 2020/2021, we had to halve the workforce due to the prevailing conditions. Later, we were able to welcome back to Casino Cosmopol all employees who had been laid off. Many had moved on to other jobs but close to 100 colleagues returned.

Vegas was also significantly affected by the pandemic as the video lottery terminals are located at restaurants and bingo halls that had fewer guests and shorter opening hours. As our business partners re-opened in the latter part of 2021, players started coming back.

More games at Vegas. Vegas expanded the gambling portfolio with eight new games and now offers a total of 26 different games.

New Responsibility measures. 'Carded play' was one of the new responsibility measures implemented at Casino Cosmopol meaning that a personal card with PIN is required to play on our slot machines. In addition, today’s betting tables are cashless and chips can only be purchased at the casino’s cash registers. Both of these measures make it easier for us to monitor the gambling and guests. The Vegas “Spelkoll” programme was complemented by a range of new tools, including automatic “Spelpaus,” a game break of 10 minutes after 120 minutes of play.

New website. During the year we launched a new website: casinocosmopol.se. Development will continue with updated design, features to encourage responsible gambling, and several other new features such as logged in mode. Among other things, guests will be able to enter and pre-register for a smoother entry at the casinos.

Focus moving forward. We will maintain sustainable business with a focus on responsible gambling. We also continue to digitalise, for example by developing new services and pursuing cashless gambling. Finally, we are widening our offering — new games are in the works and the event venue The C at the casino in Gothenburg will be launched in 2022.
